Kolkata/New Delhi: The Patent Office, Government of India, has registered a design titled “Low Radar Detectability Loitering Munition”, according to a Certificate of Registration of Design issued by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks.
The certificate identifies the design as Design No. 464125-001, with the application dated July 1, 2025, and records its registration in Class 12-07. The certificate was issued on September 17, 2026.
The registered design is listed in the names of Atharva Abhijeet Chitale, Pruthviraj Bali, Abhay, Debasis Nandy, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bhowmik and Dr. Shubhro Chakrabortty.
A separate communication from the Patent Office, dated October 7, 2025, indicates that the application had been identified as relating to a defence-purpose article and was examined in the context of Section 46 of the Designs Act, 2000. The provision concerns restrictions on disclosure of information relating to designs where disclosure could be considered prejudicial to India’s security interests.
The Patent Office communication also notes that registration of a design depends on requirements under the Designs Act, including whether the design is new or original and concerns the shape or configuration of an article. It sought an opinion from the concerned defence authorities on the applicability of Section 46 before disposal of the application.
The certificate confirms that the design was ultimately registered under the Designs Act, 2000 and Designs Rules, 2001.
The documents establish the registration of the design but do not, by themselves, provide technical specifications, performance characteristics or evidence that the munition has been developed, tested, inducted or deployed by the Indian armed forces. A design registration is an intellectual-property right concerning the registered design and should not be interpreted on its own as proof of military deployment or operational capability.
