Tripura flood death toll rises to 12

Agartala: Flood situation in Tripura remains critical. 12 people have died in the floods so far. Although the water level has decreased slightly, the Howrah river is still flowing above the danger level. The condition of Gomti river is deplorable. Blowing muhuri, manu, give, lose. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the state till August 25. The state administration is surprised by that.

NDRF teams have already arrived in the state from Hull in Arunachal Pradesh to assist in relief and rescue work. There are 120 members in this group. Another team will arrive in Agartala soon, Chief Minister Manik Saha said.

So far 12 people have been officially confirmed dead in Tripura due to four days of floods. Two others are missing. However, according to private sources, the number of casualties is much higher. In the last 24 hours, 7 people from two families have died in Bilonia of the southern district. It was possible to rescue 6 people. Locals are trying to rescue one more person. The state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who died in the flood. This is what the Chief Minister said.

Around 65,400 people in the flood-affected areas have taken shelter in various relief camps since August 19. About 17 lakh people affected. Landslides occurred in at least 2,032 places. Due to which the road and rail communication system is disrupted. It is believed that such a terrible flood has never happened before in the history of Tripura.

The Chief Minister held a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday to review the situation. Top officials of the administration including the chief secretary were present there. The state government has announced that all schools and colleges will remain closed until the situation normalizes.
