England-1 : Switzerland-1
(England won 5-3 in tie-breaker)
Dusseldorf: One more match in the current Euro is a tie-breaker. England had the last laugh in the penalty shoot-out in the third quarter-final on Saturday. Gareth Southgate’s men booked their place in the last four after beating Switzerland 5-3. Palmer, Bellingham, Saka, Ivan Toney and Alexander-Arnold netted for England in the tie-breaker respectively. On the other hand, a shot of the opponent was blocked by Jordan Pickford. It should be noted that even with the lead in the match, the Swiss failed to hold it. Bukayo Saka got on the scoresheet for England. Brel Mbolo scored the only goal for the Swiss.
England started the Euro campaign as one of the favourites, but failed to match the expected performance. On the other hand, Switzerland secured their place in the last eight by defeating Italy. So the England coach knew well that the fight on Saturday would not be easy. The Ken-Fodens’ lack of understanding in attack was evident from the start of the tournament. No change has happened even today. The Saka-Trippers tried to attack from the wing, but Bellingham failed to capitalize on it in the box.
The pace of the match did not change much in the second half either. Brel Mbolo brought the desired goal to the Swiss in the 75th minute. Ndwe’s cross from the right side of the box beat marker Kyle Worker into the net (1-0). The England coach made three changes at the same time as he fell behind in the match, which helped a lot. In the 80th minute, Bukayo Saka (1-1) shook the net with a sharp shot from outside the box. The game went into extra time without any further changes to the score-line at the scheduled time. In this phase as well, both teams take the defense and attack. In the end, England challenged the goalkeeper several times, but Switzerland did not see a second goal.
